If anyone that has listened to Imus, knows he an asshole, with that being said, I believe this is the WORST of his asshole remarks! Remember he is also the same guy that said the Williams sisters looked like dinosaurs instead of tennis players. I beleive in freedom of speech but I believe the Bible also says "To whom much is given, much is required" When you are blessed with a platform like TV or radio use it for good not evil! Imus is old and won't change (unless God changes him) but firing him may prevent the "young assholes" chomping at the bit!
Part II - The same criticism I have of Imus I have for BLACK MEN that use the word HOES in thier "music", no Black woman should ever be called a HOE, even if the woman in question really is one , she is STILL a child of God! Words hurt that is why as mad as I may get, I try my best to NOT call people names, I grew up hearing hurtful words my whole childhood and they leave scars!

You can't yell fire in a movie theatre when there isn't one can you? The "Today" show's Al Roker said Tuesday on his show's official blog that it was time for Imus to go. "I, for one, am really tired of the diatribes, the 'humor' at others' expense, the cruelty that passes for 'funny,'" Roker said.

Sounds like you thought that kind of humor was ok last week.

Yeah I like Dave Chappelle and Mencia, but Imus comments about the Rutgers team was nasty and insulting, I guess I look at it like this, if one of those girls was my sister or daughter...

Every company has a policy and I sure would like to see what is mention in his work policy book. I know at my job, if we say anything racist you're out!
He can have freedom of speech but he can't used the airwaves to voice his opinion. You can say whatever you want on your own time but its not right to use public airwaves to say racist things ... for MSNBC to not do anything would come across that they share his views. Millions of people listen and what he said on public radio was/is dead wrong, racist and hurtful.
Everytime I read those words it hurts ... I can't imagine what those girls are going through right now. Sorry is a start but its not sufficient. His words destroyed the joy and struggles those girls endured ... this is something that will follow them forever. Boo hoo ... 2 week suspension. Those girls will have to live with those words for the rest of their lives.

On The Today Show it was mentioned that one of Imus' Executive Producers is an African American. I would think that if Imus was such a horrible racist, this producer would choose not to work with him...I don't know. I'm just guessing.
But in any event, the Rutgers players have accepted Imus' apology. I think it was the coach that said the team wasn't going to give Imus the power to make them feel inferior.
I like that. Sometimes, you just have to be the bigger person when someone says something ignorant.

What will firing Mr. Imus do to the problem as a whole? Not a damn thing.
C. Vivian Stringer put it best: "It’s not about the Rutgers women’s basketball team. It’s about women. Are women hos? Think about that. Would you have wanted your daughter to have been called that? It is not about they as black people or as nappy headed. It’s about us as a people, black, white, purple or green. And I want to suggest that as much as I speak about that, the truth of the matter is that it is not even black and white. The color is green. The color is green."
You get rid of Mr. Imus, then what? There are plenty of radio personalities of all races who spews the same kind of crap that he did. It isn't just radio people also, it's people of all professions of all races.
Are we as a society gonna put up with such crap in the future...including the crap OUR people say?
Marinate on that.

I agree (I have already stated) that I think it is deplorable that our men call our women ho's...THAT STILL DOESN'T EXCUSE IMUS! He need to be made an example so the next asshole doesn't do it!

True ... firing him won't change the world but it will show that the way in which he chose to send his rude and auwful message of hate to a group of very intelligent females was unacceptable and will not be tolerated. You do nothing and nothing will change.
True ... our people need to change in how they address females. No argument there. It was only a matter of time for all of this to happen. We send out mixed messages ... its okay for me to say it but not you. Its wrong whoever says it.
I guess the difference here is that Imus got on public radio and specifically pointed out a group of girls who just accomplished much. There is something wrong with that. I don't listen to rap music but are they calling women "nappy headed hos?"

I don't listen to rap music but are they calling women "nappy headed hos?" You can about bet and worse... but just because the rappers do it does not give everyone else carte blanche, that is what they hold on to. It is not and never will be acceptable and I don't care how politically incorrect that may sound. These brothas give them a so-called way out... a way out of feeling that this kind of foolery is funny. No one has put a microphone in a black woman's face and asked her if she liked it. I hate to say it but you may get the occasional bonehead saying that it is cool with her with the way it is going in this day. Speaking of that has anyone been to that HotGhettomess.com lately? Go there and check out the attitude on the message board, quite disheartening. I believe he should lose his gig but it may make a monster and he ends up somewhere else in the way of Howard Stern. But these people have to understand there is a definite browning of America and the crap that they have been getting away with is not going to fly anymore unless they continue to hold the purse strings and how much longer will that be?

What will firing Mr. Imus do to the problem as a whole? Not a damn thing. You're right Brother B, firing Imus will accomplish absolutely nothing. What is important here is that people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson stop fanning the flames. Now is the time for Black America to do some self evaluation. We need to have honest discussions about the images we are showing the rest of the world. There is a quote by Mahatma Gandhi that reads: "Be the change you want to. see in the. world." Now is the time for Black America to make some serious changes.

MSNBC should have a "zero tolerance" for his actions is all I'm saying. You cannot have this type of stuff on public airwaves ... its insulting to african americans and women alike.
You are always going to have some folks giving a bad image but it does not speak for all. Perhaps this move on MSNBC will allow us black folks in the music industry to follow. If nothing happened to Imus it would have sent a message to America that what he said and what some of those rappers say is TRUE and its not!
If Imus said that about you, your mother, your daughter, your sister .... we would stand up and demand him to resign.
Those great women on Rutgers team did not deserve that and if Imus can say it about those girls he can and will say it about anyone of color based on negative stereotypes. He went too far.
You have to start somewhere and perhaps this is the beginning of a change.
