I'm a soon to be college graduate who has done all the right things in school to prepare myself for the workforce upon graduation. By the right things I mean internships..networking..making sure I kept my grades up to graduate with honors..joining clubs etc. With graduation approaching I have been sending out resumes and just doing some soul searching to figure out where I want my first "real job" to be. I was wondering if any fellow strong, educated females have any words of wisdom as I embark on this new path in my life. Any words of advice on job searching would be much appreciated as well. I have an interest in working in the non profit world, an organization geared towards children would best fit my interest. Thanks!

The first thing I will tell you is “don’t stress”. This is a time of joy because you are graduating college, but also a time of anxiety. Have complete faith that everything will work out exactly the way that it’s supposed to.
Also, you sound like you know what you want to do. You want to work for an organization geared towards kids? Then don’t settle. If you can turn your passion into a career, you will be happy and successful.
Best of luck!

I told you all I'd keep you updated with me and I figured who else to share this great news with than you ladies. Today one of my professors informed me that he gave my name to his brother and sister in law in regards to an assistant job position they have opening up. Now get this, his brother is amazing DEF Poetry poet Steve Colman and his sister in law is Sarah Jones, the writer and actress who won a Tony award last year for Bridge & Tunnel! The job involves traveling at times to other countries and some other things. I sent them my cover letter and resume and Steve Colman's going to call me for an interview. Their office is in Greenwich Village, New York. My professor couldnt guarantee I'd get the job but at least I have a fair shot cuz not many ppl even know about the position opening at all. Talk about networking! Whether I get the job or not just the fact that my professor (a white man by the way) thought I had what it took to do this job and he doesnt really even know me outside the classroom really made me feel great. So anyway I'll keep you guys updated on this job as well as how the job fair at my school goes this week. God is good ladies!

Good for you! Go for what you know! I just advise you to see if this or any job that you go after fits your needs if you need health insurance or other perks keep those in mind but don't make the demand totally out in the open, show your interest in the position before you ask about the other things. They may just tell you anyway. If your path leads you to non-profit organizations the perks will definitely mean something to you, especially when you have a family. Good luck to you.
