If you like action, suspense and some very cool gadgets, Casino Royale is a flick you definitely need to check out.
The latest in the James Bond series is the adaptation of British author Ian Fleming's first novel in the evolution of the flamboyant British super-secret agent and is the first for British actor Daniel Craig, who takes over the role of 007 from recent perennial favorite Pierce Bronson.
Casino Royale starts off with Bond just receiving 007 status. After one of his kills was captured on security cameras - which enraged his boss, "M" - Bond heads to the Bahamas to follow up on some leads and discovers that one of the men he's investigating works for Le Chiffre, an international banker who manages the money of several terrorists/terrorist groups. He follows the man to Miami, where Bond later foils a terrorist plot against a new airliner at Miami International Airport, causing Le Chiffre to lose millions of the terrorists' money; for he thought the stock of the airliner's manufacturer would plummet after the plane was blown up, but the opposite happened.
To recover the money, LeChiffre holds a high-stakes poker tournament in Montenegro. Bond participates with millions produced by the British government. On the way, he falls in love with a British government treasury agent named Vesper Lynd, who accompanies him on the trip. After a few mishaps and a near-death experience, Bond wins the tournament and takes Le Chiffre's money.
Enraged, LeChiffre kidnaps Vesper, causing Bond to go on a car chase that nearly takes his life. After being gruesomely tortured by Le Chiffre, Bond is freed and considers early retirement to spend the rest of his life with Vesper.
Will Bond do such a thing? You'll have to check the film out.
I will say this...Daniel Craig did a great job of portraying 007. The franchise is in good hands.
My rating: (I don't see the original thumb up smiley)
