AFRICANIA: HOMAGE TO AFRICA
Africania is a project of Solidarity Tourism, a non-governmental and non-profit organization based and registered in Madrid, Spain, in the National Registry of Associations - Ministry of the Interior - on February 26, 1997 with No. 164.733. It was founded by Bamfa Kanyi, Paloma Fraguio and María Calvo.
Tourism is a major source of economic development for deprived regions, and a vibrant means of connecting people across the globe. Solidarity Tourism is an alternative to traditional tourism that fosters enhanced intercultural relationships. It offers travelers a chance to live and take part in a community, and not just observe it from afar. Solidarity trips can have a highly positive impact on the lives of local communities and can considerably lessen costs for travelers.
The main objective of Solidarity Tourism is to establish a solidarity tourism network in select regions across the globe. Africania was launched as a first step in this direction. It focuses exclusively on Africa and has enormous potential for economic and community development in this continent. It also offers travelers an opportunity to explore the stunning natural beauty of Africa and experience the reality of African life.
Africania aims to establish a solidarity tourism travel network in Africa and has a basic framework already in place for Gambia and Senegal. We work to identify families in Africa who are willing to host travelers, and we match travelers with Africans and African communities that have similar interests. Travelers who visit Africa through our solidarity tourism network can stay for the duration of their trip with a host African family. This will give travelers the opportunity to experience African life, culture and values first- hand. For those dreaming of traveling to Africa, for those who would like to experience the African way of life - learn percussion, go fishing with the locals, and experience the warmth of an African home - this is the place where you can search for trips, host families, or indicate the activities and destinations that you're interested in.
