Hi everyone - finally!!
First, I would like to apologize for the week long delay, I had computer issues that prevented me from replying. Second, I'm totally new to message boards, so please bear with me while I get familiarized with everything here. Third, please do feel free to ask me anything - I will give you my honest response - good or bad - and I hope you will do the same for me when I ask questions. Ok, let's play catch up!
Sweetpie: Hi, thank you for the warm welcome, I'm glad to be here.
Jazzlover: Why yes, I do like chocolate and vanilla - they're my two favorite flavors of ice cream! You were refering to food, right? ;D
Dolphinfan: Good grief, where do I start??
How do I really feel about black people? The same way I feel about everyone else... some I like, some I don't. I was born in 1972, not 1942, so I grew up with, played with, and went to school with other black kids. I did have a sense of boundaries, and I did hear racial slurs growing up in Charleston SC and here in Hampton VA. I form my own opinions - and they are based on a person's attitude and character, not their skin color.
How do I address racism amongst my peers? Well, that kinda depends on how well I know them. I'm not about to walk up to a 6 foot tall beer bellied gun rack in the back window of his pickup truck stranger and start championing black rights. I hope you'll understand on that one. For people that I'm obligated to be around but wouldn't hang out with otherwise, I often let it go. The exception to that is the parents of my childrens' friends. I don't let my kids go to houses with racist parents/kids in them, and I encourage them to think with empathy and logic about the remarks they hear some others make. As far as close friends go, as Blaque can attest to, there is no "taboo" subject. I don't have any close friends that are racist/anti-black, but it is alive and well in the world, and therefore fair game as a topic of discussion. I could probably write all night on this one, but I feel the need to let others get a word in edgewise.
Do I have an attraction to black men? Well, hell yeah - to the attractive ones at least! I'm a heterosexual woman - I'm attracted to men. Period. Have I ever been in a relationship with one? No, I haven't. I've had 2 husbands and 3 kids, all as white as white could be. Do I have a problem with interracial relationships? Maybe a little, not nearly as much as some other people, but I think they're becoming more widely accepted these days and that lessens any problems I may have with it. I just believe that life and love are hard enough to sustain without a bunch of racial BS complicating things - and I think that mixed kids face more challenges than white or black kids. But this too is gradually changing, and not a moment too soon for the little ones.
Whew! By the way, I tend to be a little on the long-winded side, in case you hadn't noticed! Okay guys and gals, fire away!!

Oh, one more thing... NO, Jazzlover, I am not a fictitious white girl - I'm sure there have been a few times when Blaque wishes that I were, but I'm not. I'll get my picture up soon so you can put a face with the name.
