I was at the Social Security office for 45 minutes waiting to see someone to get a new SS card because of my new last name.
I was prepared.
I had the application already filled out.
I had my court order signed by the judge.
But when someone finally helped me, she said that she could not give me a new card.
Get this.
I have to show them something where my name has already been changed.
Um, what? Isn't that what THEY are for.
I have to give them something with my old name and my new name before they will give me a new social security card.
What the hell sense does that make?

None, and that wait is frustrating as hell. I went thru it recently waiting to replace the SS card that I misplaced.
Had an ARMED guard there with a BIG ass gun! Dahell you need all that at the Social Security office for?

Oh yeah, they had an armed guard at our office too. I had to stop at his desk first to get a number.
And the reason is probably because people have gone the fuck off waiting in that place only to be subjected to incompetence and crazy ass rules.

I didn't have to do that when I applied for one after I got married. So you have to come up with a bill or something? But still how are you going to prove that? You're right it doesn' t make sense.

I talked to this Admin here at work and surprisingly, she has a step by step process that she says she will give me. Apparently, I have to go to the DMV first and then go get a new SS card.
I'm off tomorrow so hopefully I can get all of this taken care of.
