"The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color-line." —W. E. B. DuBoisThese words are among the most prophetic in American history. They were written by the historian and sociologist W. E. B. DuBois for The Exhibit of American Negroes. They are words whose force has echoed throughout this century. This is a link to black life at the turn of the century which was exhibited at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris. The portraits are astounding. W.E.B Dubois spearheaded this study but it was never finished and certain elements became lost in time but these pictures are at the Library of Congress, check them out. www.fofweb.com/onfiles/AFHC/afparis1900/1exhibit__black_life__intro.htmThis link are of portraits.
