I saw this on another board. Very interesting...
Another urban legend/myth that's been floating around our community for years states that more Black males are in jail , than college.Though this data is slightly under two years old should end this misstatement that many took as fact .The number of Black males in prison
is criminally high ,more males are in college and hopefully will matriculate in four years or more.
College Enrollment 2004 (with 2005 total Census numbers)

There are 647,900 more black/African American women in college than black/African American men.
In 2005 there were a total of 39.7 million blacks/African Americans

There are 1,446,800 white women in college than white men.
In 2005 there were a total of 198.4 million white/European Americans

By the way on December 31, 2005 there were 2,193,798 prisoners held in Federal or State prisons or in local city and county jails.
