What exactly do those terms mean to you?
Is there someone you would categorize as an Uncle Tom or House Nig---?
I'll tell you guys right now, Condoleezza Rice gets my vote!

Let me use MY workplace as an example ANY black person who grins and "shuffles", lauds and applauds white people, but will ignore, not speak to, roll eyes, etc at AA's. One of my AA coworkers acts like she could eat up one of our Becky's....she calls and checks on her if she is off from work, she says things out loud like, "I hope Susan's (the keebler) mother/kids/whatever relative is okay, or Susan is okay." She will readily jump up and do her work if she isnt here or volunteer her services to Susan if she is here. Mind you, we tried to tell AA that Susan is NOT her friend time and time again and Susan has gotten her in trouble but she wont believe us. others I think are "Toms" and this is JUST Lois' opinion- -Oprah (to a certain degree) *sorry Panther* -Sidney Poitier -Colin Powell

It's funny, how we as AAs despise categorization, or being put in a "niche," etc, but we feel free to do it to others. I detest this notion amongst us that a person is a "Tom" whenever their views don't jibe with the perceived "black majority," or with our own.
Guess that means we're ALL "Toms," then., cause I'm sure that we can each find someone who feels that our views should be the same as theirs...

I agree with DaRock on his point because I have been called an Uncle Tom before....because I was smart, didn't talk a certain way, didn't have a certain viewpoint, didn't get involved in certain activities while engaging in others and didn't eat my food a certain way...and so forth. We all are guilty of calling someone that.

But this is still a discussion forum, right? I mean, the reason most of us post is to give our opinions. I'm not suggesting that we all should have the same outlook on life. But when people have different views, I have an absolute right to have an opinion about it.

Damn DaRock got it like dat, you go boy!
Seriously an Uncle Tom is one that seeks the approval of the Master at the expence of his fellow slaves....if it applies it applies, I have conservative views too, but I NEVER allow my conservatism interfere with my grip on reality, the reality that white folks still think they are better than us.
