I see a lot of women at my job who have babies and within a few weeks they are in here passing the baby around for every body to touch and kiss or whatever. Half the time, they don't have shoes or sock on. It's ridiculous. How many months (or weeks) old was your newborn when he or she first made an appearance outside of the home. (not counting doctor's appts).

I notice the same and gasp.
No children here, but children in the fam generally don't go out for months.
If they were born in the warm months, they might have been lucky enough to have afternoon strolls in the gardens, but they weren't taken to places where they'd have contact with people.
Winter babies have no such luck. Both because it is cold and because of the winter illnesses that go around.
I didn't notice how much the babies are kept away from others until recently. Once my sister-in-law chewed me out because I was holding my niece while at the mall and a bunch of old ladies were crowding around me saying how cute she was.
My SIS said that my niece was too young to be around strangers' hands. "Who knows what they have?" "When was the last time they washed their hands--Do you know?"
My niece wasn't that small. She wasn't yet six months, though.
Before we touch the babies, we always wash hour hands, make sure our clothes are fresh, and so on, and a person approaching a baby in the mall is clearly not following those unspoken rules.
Her going postal made sense.
But I didn't notice the "rule" until then.

I had a Dr's appt 1 week after she was born. But we went straight there and straight back. I really didn't take neither one of my kids out until they had their second set of shots. I wanted to make sure they was vaccinated. Even then it would be trips like to Church, and such. Some women are crazy for not covering their children up. Colic is not no joke
