Based on your own postpartum recovery, what do you think is the "right" amount of time for maternity leave, for moms who work outside the home?

I feel six weeks is fair, barring any complications. Of course, some women take more than that but that is on them, if they can afford to be off longer than six weeks.

I stayed off for 12 weeks but did not immediately return to work ... personally, I think it should be longer. In Canada family is valued and women get 12 full months off which is what it should be. If you want to go back to work before than, thats her choice.
I think a year is good ... bonding is important.

Not to turn this into a monetary issue but a lot of companies wont give you that much time off paid and for a lot of women, we dont have an extra income to supplement what we dont make during that time off. I would have loved to have had that much time off. I think six weeks is too early but.......

I stayed out of work 5 months for my last because she was premature, it really depends on the situation because I was hospitalized for 6 weeks before she was born.
