Do you send your kids to summer camp?
If not, what types of activities are they involved in during the summer?

I have before. But a lot of camps have closed like this big design to have the kids in the street. I allow my oldest to work at our business and then have different things she can do. Work, clean, go places. Visit family out of town.

I sent my son to a summer camp for disabled children last summer and they told me on the first day that they wouldn't have anyone to give him his tube feedings. A camp for disabled kids with no nurse on staff? I won't even register him this year. It's too bad.

That is crazy. Then what do they consider disabled with no nurse?

I guess there are different degrees and my son is pretty severe. "It sucks to be you" was basically their attitude.

Then I guess I would ask them what they accept because if the accepted him from the beginning then they should have been obligated to make it happen and get that nurse their

I sent a letter to the Director and she gave me this song and dance about budget cuts and not being able to find a RN who only wanted to work during the summer months. She told me that if I wanted to come on my lunch break and tube feed him until they could find someone I could do that. Needless to say, that didn't happen.

My son is enrolled in Summer School. THe schol is African Centered and is focused on Social Studies, Geography, Journal writing, and Math. Because my son is only 6 (the school is from 5-16) he is at the bottom of the totem pole. His 11-year old Cousin is considered a leader becasue he is going into Jr High. The older children (14-16) are considered Mentors.
Hopefully he will appreciate the experience. He currently goes to Saturday School with the same people and he likes it.
