For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a
dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in
slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and
sealeth their instruction, That he may withdraw man from his purpose,
and hide pride from man. He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and
his life from perishing by the sword. Job 33:14-17
Do you believe that God still speaks to man by dreams and visions?
Does God use dreams and visions to show forth His mighty works in the
earth? I believe He does.
God has spoken to me several times in dreams and visions. I do not
say this is a frequent occurrence but it has happened and there is
certainly a scriptural basis for it. Take for example the verse from
Job quoted above.
God speaks in dreams and night visions but man perceives it not. Is
it possible that God has spoken to you but you have failed to
perceive it?
Why does God speak in dreams? This verse shows us several reasons.
The first is to seal our instructions. The word seal here means to
affix or close up by sealing. The word instruction means discipline
or correction. Why would God try to correct us when we sleep? Could
it be in order to bypass our natural tendency to refuse or
rationalize away correction? I believe it is.
God shows us other reasons here for speaking in dreams. He withdraws
man from his purpose. He hides pride from man. He keeps us from hell
and warns us of impending problems in order that we may preserve our
very lives. But man perceives it not.
I wonder how many people would still be alive today if they had
perceived and obeyed a God given dream?
