Featuring the award winning film:
'American Blackout'
http://americanblac kout.gnn. tv/
American Blackout - chronicles the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement from Florida 2000 to Ohio 2004, particularly of Black voters. It also follows the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. McKinney not only took an active role investigating these election debacles, but then found herself in the middle of her own after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Cynthia McKinney represented the 4th congressional district in Georgia . First elected in 1992, she was the first Black woman elected to Congress from Georgia . After ten years of service, Congresswoman McKinney lost her seat in 2002 after a concerted effort by Republicans to organize voters to "cross over" and vote against her in the Democratic primaries. Her experience as the target of such an orchestrated campaign is documented in the film American Blackout directed by Ian Inaba. She was re-elected to Congress in 2004 but recently lost the Fourth Congressional District Democratic runoff, after similar coalitional efforts to defeat her re-election. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney continues to be a major figure in the U.S. civil rights and Black Liberation movement.
