Austin Toros Coach Dennis Johnson Dies
(CBS 42) AUSTIN Austin Toros coach and Boston Celtics star Dennis Johnson died Thursday.
Johnson, 52, played in the NBA for 13 seasons beginning in 1976. "D.J." played for the Seattle SuperSonics, the Phoenix Suns, and the Boston Celtics.
Johnson was part of three NBA champions -- in 1978 with the SuperSonics and in 1984 and 1986 with the Celtics. He was a five-time NBA All-Star from 1979-1982 and in 1985.
Johnson was named coach of the Austin Toros, an NBA Developmental League team, in August 2005.
The cause of death wasn't immediately announced. But a man who answered the phone in the Toros office said Johnson collapsed after practice. A spokeswoman for the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office says an autopsy will be done.
