No, it's not a Louisiana thing. It's a Southern thing (me thinks Virginia isn't part of the South ) It's basically a chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese icing. INGREDIENTS: * 2 cups sifted cake flour, sift before measuring * 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder * 1/2 cup shortening * 1 1/4 cups sugar * 2 eggs, beaten * 3/4 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon vanilla * 2 ounces (2 squares) baking chocolate, melted * 1 cup evaporated milk * Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting, see below PREPARATION: Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add salt and vanilla, then melted chocolate. Sift together sifted cake flour and baking powder; add to first mixture alternately with the milk, blending well after each addition and ending with flour mixture. Bake in greased and floured 9-inch layer cake pans at 350° for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly touched with finger. To make the frosting: INGREDIENTS: * 1/4 cup butter, softened * 8 ounces cream cheese, softened * 2 ounces (2 squares) unsweetened chocolate, melted * dash of salt * 3 cups powdered sugar * 1/3 cup half-and-half * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract PREPARATION: Cream together the butter and cream cheese. Add melted chocolate, salt, sifted confectioners' sugar, half-and-half, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and spreadable. Makes enough frosting for a two-layer cake.

If I remember correctly, you beat me down about VA being a Midatlantic state as opposed to a southern state. I say it is the "souf." anyway, thanks for the recipe
