Robert Tilton, the profit prophet, is unfortunately back on the air. BET has recently sold him airtime on their cable television station. He has been called a charlatan by Texas Attorney General Dan Morales. He accused Tilton of "raping the most vulnerable segments of our society; the poor, the infirm, the ignorant." Of course this is not really the case. Not everyone who watches this program is ignorant, naive maybe, but not ignorant.
At the height of his popularity, his ministry brought in nearly $80 million annually. This was before an ABC investigation exposed his ministry in 1991. Tilton began his so called ministry in the early 1970s. He started Word of Faith Family Church north of Dallas a decade later. This church became the headquarters of the popular nationwide TV program Success-N-Life.
He has expanded his so called ministry. He can now be seen on other cable stations. It appears that the programs are nothing more than his old program recycled. I have received feedback from people who claim that they gave to Robert Tilton's ministry and were blessed financially. I do not dispute this. God honors those that honor him. But that does not mean that Robert Tilton isn't stealing from God's children. I have a question for those of you who support him. What does he do with the money? Do you want to know the answer? He spends it on the lust of his flesh! He is using money that people have donated on himself! Wake Up people! If you want to give to a ministry there are many ministries out there that actually do something for God's Kingdom.
I really do not see why Christians cannot see that this guy was a charlatan. I knew it from the first time I saw him on TV, when I was a baby Christian. I believe in the prosperity message, but Tilton's version is a perversion. I do not believe that God wants everyone rich like some Word of Faith teachers preach. But God does not want us poor either. What kind of testimony would that be. That would really make people want to be a Christian! Anyway, hopefully Tilton will be taken off the air again soon so he will no longer be able to fleece the flock.
