In New Jersey, it's mostly about corruption. We have two candidates, thats running for office (senate) Manedeze -d and KEAN-R. Both are supported, by big business. For the third smallest state,we have the highest Insurance rates, high taxes, fifth highest Housing cost. All they ever do is get voted in, and put friends in charge of projects. Manedez, is in trouble for KICK Backs, Kean is the son of a former governor, no political back ground what so ever. Just a YES MAN , for his Party. Our CURRENT GOVERNOR spent 45 million of his own money, to run for office . I think it should be a cap on that!! We need ELECTION REFORMS, HEALTH reforms . We have over a hundred and sixty SCHOOL DISTRICT,superintendents!!!! we only have twenty one county's!!. They are all paid 125.000, benefits, PLUS EARLY RETIREMENTS!!!!!! We have Both party's DOUBLE DIPPING , which is ILLEGAL!!!!!! having two state JOBS!!!! and or Contracts, while working for the government!!!. They keep hiring, we keep paying, but no results. We tried everything, that I'm aware of, but the DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS, have this state on lock down!!!!!!!

The most controversial is the same sex marriage issue. Even though Virginia law already bans same-sex marriage and civil unions, Virginia wants to make sure that gays and lesbians can not ever have the same right as heterosexual couples. I guess there was nothing else more important going on inthe state.

There's not much happening here either.
The big issue is whether or not Rep. Bill Jefferson will be re-elected to represent the 1st Congressional district, which encompases most of New Orleans and upper Jefferson Parish. He has five major challengers: four black Democrats and one white Republican. If I was in that district, I'd vote for State Rep. Karen Carter. I knowthe older black folks will vote for Jefferson, it's what the white folks and the younger blacks will do. It's very close.
Then there are two proposed state constitutional amendments: * Amendment #7 will reduce the number of tax assessors in New Orleans from seven to one. The New Orleans assessors are really against this, saying taxes will go up, people won't know their assessors personally and folks will be treated as a number. The last time I checked, every other county/parish and independent city has only one tax assessor and was doing the job just fine. I'm voting for this one.
* Amendment #8 deals with Central, outside of Baton Rouge. They just became incorporated (a city with actual boundaries) and they want to break away from the East Baton Rouge Parish School District and form their own. Nearby Baker and Zachary did this a few years ago. Central is 90 percent white. If this passes, Central will become the 69th school district in the state (All 64 parishes has its own school district, plus the cities of Monroe, Bogalusa, Zachary and Baker have their own districts). I'm not with this one because the next thing you know, all the white suburbs will want to form their own school districts and Louisiana will look like South Carolina, North Carolina and New Jersey: more school districts than parishes.

In Mississippi, Sen. Trent Lott has a challenger in Dem. Erik Fleming, a former state rep. from Jackson. Yes, he's black. U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson (the only black Congressman MS has), who represents the Delta, goes against Tchula Mayor Yvonne Brown, a Republican sister. www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=SPECIAL02
