Now I will say point blank I am not a religious person at all but I do believe that I still know right from wrong and can be a contributing member to society regardless. I have a problem with organized religion as I believe it is and always has been used to keep the negro in his place especially if that negro wont drink or drug. Anyway can you be a good person and not be religious.
Do you think that is possible?

To answer that last question in a nutshell...
One can be a good person and not be religious but if one doesn't confess with their mouth and believe in their heart that Jesus is Lord you will not go to heaven.
Do you not believe that there is a higher being that is responsible for all of this? Do you think the world and all in it just assembled itself?
As long ago as these scriptures were written (and they were written by men) do you think the ancient people of those times were capable of a story or a thought that would come full circle into todays society?
Organized religion does leave a bad taste in peoples mouths but who organized it? Man... HE wrecked it. You don't go to church to follow man. You go to church to praise the Lord. You seem to be stuck looking at man. It is not about what the the congregation wears or if they are hypocrites... the church, the temple is in you.
The bible was not written to keep the black man down. The bible was written to keep believers free no matter what type of shackles that held them on this earth.
We are responsible for praising him and telling his story (Jesus). We are responsible for not forgetting him. He said remember me.
In old days white folx took CERTAIN scriptures to so-call reinforce the thought of THEM being master and Jesus likeness was of a white man but the bible suggests otherwise in at least one man's vision.
Every culture draws God to look like them so they can identify with him.
I will stop here, this post is getting long winded.

I believe that one can be a good person and not attend Church just like I believe that one can attend Church regularly, know and quote the Bible, ask for forgiveness of sins and still be incredibly mean spirited.
I don’t think that all organized religion is bad. People are bad. It’s the ones who represent themselves as Godly and have dark, ugly hearts and souls that give other Christians and church in general a bad rep.

I think that one can be a Christian and not attend church on a regular basis for whatever reason they have. I have more of a problem with "church folks," who can spout Scripture, serve on diff committees or not, etc, but live a completely different life outside of church or depending on who is around. Christian when it is convenient for them and a freak or mean person any other time.

But people like that know that “God will forgive me” so they really believe that they can live anyway they want to live. Girl, I can go on forever on that topic but I won’t hijack glc’s thread.
