I very strongly believe that Pre-Paid Legal Services can, and is, making a giant difference for the African American community... by giving us long withheld tools for relating to the American Justice System. Pre-Paid Legal is gradually leveling the playing field for us... and we need to take advantage of it.
The letter below is copied from my website. Please take the time to read it. I will use this forum to answer any questions that you have about Pre-Paid Legal Services.
Thank You.

"Peace is not merely the absence of tension, it is the presence of justice." - Martin Luther King Jr.[/b][/size]
The above statement is true. The sad fact is that justice including legal advice and representation is very expensive in America. This letter will change your perception of the availability of quality legal services.
I read the story of a woman in Pennsylvania driving home a 3:00 a.m. She wrote "As I drove, I noticed a police car following me. "I was somewhat apprehensive because of the numerous news stories of late concerning police activity and the profiling of African Americans." She was pulled over to the curb with lights and siren.
She said, "The officers shone bright lights in my face and began probing my car. . . I asked the officer if I could make a call to my lawyer? This request was met with sarcasm bordering on laugher that I would be able to call a lawyer at 3:00 a.m. I quickly dialed the Legal Shield [1-800] number and was connected to Joanna who obtained from me the necessary information." The officers continued to check her and her car.
"Within two minutes, she [Joanna] came back on the line and advised me that a [Provider] lawyer was on the line and ready to handle my problem. The police officer at my window, realizing that I was in contact with a lawyer, took two steps back and tears filled my eyes with the relief that only a woman on a Philadelphia Street at 3 o’clock in the morning can understand." That is the presence of justice.
When the police realized she had legal representation right then the "check" stopped and she was allowed go on her way. That story is from the May 2005 SUCCESS from HOME magazine page 25. The Constitution affords all of us many protections. However, without an officer of the court, a lawyer, available to assert our rights we may as well not have them.
The Legal Shield Service is Just $1 a Month.
I know. This makes no sense. How can this be? First, the Legal Shield must be part of a Family Legal Plan. There is a Standard Plan at $16, or the Expanded Legal Plan for $25 per month. Second, let me quickly highlight the Family Legal Plan.
* Phone Consultations on unlimited Matters. Have toll-free access to your Provider Law Firm immediately when you enroll, for personal or business related legal matters.
* Phone Calls and Letters from your Provider Law Firm on your behalf can get you the results you want in a dispute with others. Think of it, a letter or call from your lawyer about the "smallest" matter, auto repair, product returns, a garauntee not met, rent dispute, etc.
* Contract and Document Review, an unlimited number reviewed up to ten pages each by your Provider Law Firm.
* Attorney Will Preparation and the Important Living Will (remember Terri Schiavo?) is included with annual reviews.
* Motor Vehicle Legal Expense Services, assistance with moving traffic violations and trial defense when you or a covered family member are charged with Manslaughter, Involuntary Manslaughter, Negligent Homicide, or Vehicular Homicide at no added cost to you. This service starts 15 days after enrollment.
* Trial Defense Services if you are sued. Up to 75 hours of attorney time, 60 hours with the Standard Legal Plan if you are named defendant or respondent in a covered civil or criminal action. The criminal action must arise out of the performance of your employment responsibilities.
* IRS Audit Legal Services up to 50 hours of attorney time. Coverage is for this service begins with the tax return due April 15 of the year you enrolled.
* Other Legal Services. Legal services not covered in this plan are available from provider law firms at a 25% reduction to their standard hourly rate.
That is a lot of lawyering for $26 a month or less. The difference in coverage for the $17 Standard Plan is the 60 hours of trial defense. You get 75 hours with the Expanded Plan. Remember, the $1 Legal Shield is included in each plan here. There are no long term requirements. Memberships are month to month. Again, I have listed the highlights. Furthermore, all plans cover you, your spouse, and all of your children under 18 years of age at no extra cost.
I got my family legal plan. With each call I make to my local provider law firm in Honolulu I am blown away by the concern and support I receive. My original worry was a Living Will. It is called a Hawaii Advance Health Care Directive here and must be done right. Again, remember the Terri Schiavo case? I know my wishes in this matter. However, with it properly documented everyone involved will know.
I am one of 1.4 million people in North America using this system. The legal plan membership works much like medical insurance. Combined memberships provide serious incomes to our provider law firms. In 2004 some $118,000,000 (118 million dollars) in membership fees were split among 52 law firms in North America. So when one of us calls a provider law firm we are treated like a heavy hitter client. Why? Because we are a heavy hitter client! Also, legal services are available to us while traveling in other states because all states have a quailty law firm servicing the clients in this system.
The company arranging these legal services is the final part of the answer. With thirty plus years developing and refining a system once totaly new to America, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. is on the New York Stock Exchange under the listing PPD. This is important because its financial reports must observe strict requirements and they are public.
The corporation has had 12 consecutive years of steady growth. There have been articles about the company in major publications like Business Week, Black Enterprise, Success, Forbes, Fortune, Financial World, and Money.
Yet, you probably have not heard of Pre-Paid Legal Services. Total market penetration in North America is less than 2%. Approximately 80% of Europeans have a legal services plan. So you may ask, how do people normally find out about this fabulous quality legal service system? For the most part it is word of mouth.
This is why I have posted this information on the Personal Safety Institute, Inc. website. I am sharing this information with all the people that I care about. It is way past time that all Americans have equal access to justice, rather than getting exactly as much justice as we can pay for. We no longer need to check our pocket book or wallet before we assert all of or legal rights and protections guaranteed us under our system of laws and our own Constitution. Everyone can have Valuable Legal Services for less than the cost of a cup of coffee a day.
Any one of us could be that woman on a street at 3 o’clock in the morning.
