We have seen quite a number of new members come on board, which is a very good thing.
However, there are quite a number who refuse to disclose whether they are male or female. I think some may have it confused with being heterosexual or homosexual.
I think we should make everyone on here disclose what gender they are....to avoid some sort of confusion.

I agree. I will check to see if there is a way other than asking to make them choose the correct gender.

I think we should make everyone on here disclose what gender they are....to avoid some sort of confusion. How would you do that? And then, what do you do when a person just outright lies about their gender? I don't know... it seems to me that, on a anonymous message board, people should be allowed to keep whatever personal information to themselves that they want to. Gender usually comes out in conversation anyway, since it has so much to do with our perspective. Disingenuousness usually becomes readily apparent as well. As for the possible confusion, that's normal. I usually gets cleared up right away if a mistake is made. Whatever you decide to do, Blaque... I would use caution. The more you require people to put forward that they are not comfortable with, the less overall participation there will be. It also creates an incentive for people to outright lie. Talk about confusion!

Over 75 percent of the people who register don't post anyway. Either someone is going to participate or they are not.
I looked at our top posters. Out of all of the members with 50 or more posts, all but 1 has the gender selected. Gender is such a basic question. If someone can't disclose that, it's a red flag in my opinion. Besides, I decided to create boards that are gender specific. It would be nice if we knew that the men were not posting in the women's forum, and the women were not posting in the men's forum.
All that being said, I checked the Proboards Support board, at this time there is no way to make it mandatory that a gender is selected in the profile.
I thought that by adding the animated genders it would make people choose one. Like I wrote earlier, just about all of the top posters have gender selected. If we ever get more activity on the board we may have to visit this again.
Thanks guys.

Well said. What's so bad about letting folks know you're male or female?

Some people are very private...we should respect that!
