Is there a black American who you would like to see written into the nation's history?
Who and why?

Yes, Dr. Ollie Bowman.
He was a church member of mine and a wonderful man who gave back to our community. The following article was written about him days before he passed away.
Boy Scouts Honor a 76-year old Volunteer with Prestigious Award
From the comfort of his Hampton home, 76-year old Ollie Bowman never expected to be on the receiving end of a special house call.
"I didn't expect all of this fanfare," Bowman said.
Bowman, carefully dressed in his scout shirt and cap, is too sick to move much. That makes the way this announcement is delivered even more special.
"Silver beaver award, for distinguished service to youth, presented to Ollie Bowman upon nomination by the Colonial Virginia Council," said members of the Council, as they handed him a plaque.
Bowman's wife, Gaynelle, was prepared to accept the honor at a public ceremony Saturday night, when she learned there had been a change in plans.
"I thought that was such an honor for him to come here and present him with that long-awaited award," Mrs. Bowman said.
Boy Scout leaders were gathered in one room in the Bowman home Sunday afternoon, to pay tribute to Bowman's accomplishments.
He has been involved with the scouting program in Newport News and Hampton since the 1960's. .
"Ollie, I'd like to present you with the Silver Beaver," said Herb Smith, Council Commissioner for Colonial Virginia Council.
The medal recognizes Bowman's distinguished service to young people.
"I know there's a lot of young men who've benefitted so much from everything you've had to do and everything you've had to offfer," Smith said.
"On behalf of those boys, I say thank you, sir."
Ollie Bowman had a few words to say as well.
"I'm breathless in more ways than one. But, it's wonderful. Wonderful. I hope that I have been setting an example for others to follow," Bowman said.
Mrs. Bowman said, "He's worked so hard and for years, in scouting, and now he's very ill, so it means a whole lot."
