My father and I were not close at all, and it wasn't until he died that he really showed love for me...but the moment I will never forget is when I went to see him at the nursing home in my dress blues, and he stood up out of the wheechair and hugged me, then he took me to all of his friends and said "This is MY son!" I am crying just typing this!

My mother and father were never married. My Dad proved that single parents can both play active roles in their child's life. So I guess the nicest thing my father did was BE THERE. I just left him and I thank God for him.

On Friday nights, my dad would pack all 10 of us in the wagon and head to the drive-in for a movie. On saturdays, in the summer, he would take us to the field and fly kites with us.

Brought me a brand new solid wood, bedroom suit, as a surprise when I was nine and suffering badly as a child.
